Geographic atrophy (GA), an advanced form of age-related macular degeneration, represents a significant and growing burden in ophthalmic practice, particularly in ageing populations across Asia-Pacific. Despite its prevalence, awareness, timely diagnosis and optimal management remain variable among general ophthalmologists.

This symposium aims to provide a comprehensive and clinically relevant update on GA. The session will begin with an overview of GA pathophysiology, highlighting the role of the complement pathway and key clinical trial evidence shaping current and future treatment paradigms. This will be followed by a practical review of multimodal imaging, focusing on identification of key diagnostic features and differentiating GA from other macular pathologies in routine practice.

The session will conclude with case-based discussions to guide patient selection, treatment considerations and real-world decision-making. Through expert-led insights, the symposium seeks to equip clinicians with the knowledge and confidence to improve early detection and management of GA, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.
