About our co-hosts (MSO, MGS, SSO)

Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology – The Society was first formed in 1964 by pioneering Malaysian Ophthalmologists, as a society within the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) designated as the MMA Ophthalmological Society (MMAOS). Over the following 45 years, the society has transformed into the Malaysia Society of Ophthalmology (MSO), and has grown in membership and activities focussed on promoting and advancing the specialty. With that, the MSO was formed on 15 April 2008. The MMA OS was dissolved on 31 December 2009.

As it’s predecessor society has done so well over the years, the MSO has continued to carry the flag for the profession of Ophthalmology in Malaysia, having taken over all the duties and functions of the MMA OS.

Malaysian Glaucoma Society (MGS) – MGS is a society representing ophthalmologists with subspecialty training or interest in glaucoma in Malaysia. MGS is a young society established in May 2021 with 50 active members currently. MGS aims to eliminate blindness from glaucoma in the Malaysian population through various activities. This includes raising awareness of the condition through community engagement and patient education, knowledge sharing as well as research and innovation. MGS serves as an active platform for advocacy work to improve patient’s quality of care through close collaboration with health care providers and industry partners.

Singapore Society of Ophthalmology (SSO) – Inaugurated on 11 January 1963, with it’s roots in Singapore General Hospital, the Society of Ophthalmology of the Singapore Medical Association (so named in its Constitution), operating now as the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology (SSO), has grown along with the city and practice of Ophthalmology in the country. SSO’s membership represents all the practising ophthalmologists in the country and acts as a critical source of education and lobby that speaks on behalf of all our specialist members.
