Dr. Edward Ryan Collantes is a physician and scientist focused on the genetics of inherited ocular disorders such as early onset glaucoma. Utilizing next-generation sequencing and recombinant DNA technology, he seeks to understand the genetic aspects of eye diseases, with an aim to contribute to the development of targeted therapies.
He obtained his degree in Biology, major in Genetics, at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. He earned his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas and completed ophthalmology residency at Manila Doctors Hospital. Presently, he is with the Ocular Genomics Institute at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Collantes often travels to the Philippines to provide genetic testing, screening, and counseling to visually impaired patients. He collaborates with Filipino ophthalmologists, striving to enhance treatment options for inherited eye conditions.
