Frances Meier-Gibbons

Frances Meier-Gibbons, MD is the founder and medical leader of the Eye Center Rapperswil in Switzerland, a private ophthalmological practice specialized in diagnostics and treatment of glaucoma patients. She studied at the Medical University of Zürich and graduated with the degree MD. After finishing her residency at the Eye Clinic of the University Hospital in Berne and getting the degree of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery FMH, she continued as a chief resident at the Eye Clinic of the University Hospital in Zürich, specializing in glaucoma and ophthalmic pathology. Later, she opened a private office in Rapperswil, but continued with research and teaching.
She is the co-chair of the communication committee of the European Glaucoma Society with different leading functions in the committee and she was one of the founding members of the Swiss Glaucoma group, which she led as president.
Since many years, she is active in multiple organizations such as AAO, AGS, ASCRS, Julius-Hirschberg Society, Cogan Society, EVER and WIO. She is section editor of glaucoma in International Ophthalmology and Enzyclopedia of Ophthalmology, reviewer for different journals and author /co-author of numerous publications in international ophthalmological journals and books. She has given a large number of lectures worldwide including more than 60 invited lectures at international meetings on glaucoma, ocular surface and lately history of ophthalmology.
