Jimmy Lai has worked in the public health care service including the Department of Health, the Hospital Authority and the University of Hong Kong until his retirement. He was one of the pioneers in applying ALPI, SLT, GSL, Express Glaucoma shunt, XEN glaucoma implant in the treatment of various types of closed angle and open angle glaucoma in Hong Kong. While in the public health care system, he was appointed the Chief of Services of the Department of Ophthalmology, Queen Mary Hospital, Grantham Hospital, HKU-Shenzhen Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital and Acting Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, the University of Hong Kong. He has served the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong as Vice President (Professional Affairs) and as President. He has also served the Asian Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness as Medical Director. Lai is now in private practice at the Gleneagles Hospital, Hong Kong.
