Dr Ronnie George trained in ophthalmology at the Christian Medical College Vellore. He subsequently joined Sankara Nethralaya, Medical Research Foundation, Chennai where is Director of the glaucoma services. He is also the Research Director of Vision Research Foundation. He is a guide for PHD, MS, DNB and MPhil programs.
He has published over 170 peer reviewed indexed articles, 2 books and 20 book chapters.
He received the Thiru CK.Kumaraswamy Gold Medal by the Dr MGR Medical University for MS Ophthalmology. He was awarded the Thomas Gold Medal for the best outgoing postgraduate in ophthalmology in 2001. He received the Pfizer best paper award in 2003.. He was awarded the Dr. R. N. Gandhewar Award by the Vidharbha Ophthalmic Society , the Dr D Balasubramaniam Oration by the Indian EYE Research Group -ARVO India chapter and the Noel Moniz oration by the Kochi Ophthalmic Club.
He is a member of the Education, Outreach and Technology committees of the World Glaucoma Association. He is past President of the IERG-ARVO chapter and is the past Secretary of the Glaucoma Society of India. He currently serves on the Editorial board of the Journal of Glaucoma , the I HOPE journal and is the Section editor (Glaucoma) for the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology.
