Christopher Leung is Chairperson and Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), Director of HKU Eye Centre, Chief of Service in the Department of Ophthalmology at Queen Mary Hospital. He read a MSc in Molecular Medicine at the Imperial College London, obtained his medical training (MB ChB) and doctoral education (MD) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and completed a clinical and research fellowship at the Hamilton Glaucoma Center, University of California San Diego. Research and service awards Dr. Leung received include the ARVO Clinician-Scientist Research Award (2010), WGA Science Award (2009 and 2011), AAO Senior Achievement Award (2015) and Secretariat Award (2012), and WITSA Global Information and Communications Excellence Award (2019), among others. Dr. Leung serves on the Editorial Board of American Journal of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Translational Vision Science & Technology, Asia Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Glaucoma, and International Glaucoma Review.
Dr. Virna Asroy is a lecturer in Ophthalmology Department FMUI for medical students, registrars and fellows since 2008 and assisting the students in doing the research. Nowadaysshe is the chair of Indonesian Glaucoma society (IGS). She has been doing researches and publications. The IGS is actively doing conferences and webinars to spread glaucoma awareness in Indonesia. She is also invited to have talks in regional and international ophthalmologists conferences. Since 2022 she is appointed as Asia Pacific Glaucoma Society Board member. The ongoing research now are comparing Melbourne rapid field test and HFA and completing the long term follow up of Virna Glaucoma implant.
Clinical Associate Professor Arundhati Anshu is a Senior Consultant with the Corneal & External Eye Disease Department at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She graduated from SCB Medical College, Utkal University, India in 1997 and was awarded Honours and Gold Medal in General Surgery, Pharmacology and Pathology. She did her Masters in Surgery (Ophthalmology) from Utkal University and became a Member of Royal College of Edinburgh in 2002. In addition to management of cataract and anterior segment disorders, Clin Assoc Prof Anshu’s clinical interests are in the areas of corneal transplantation, corneal infections and LASIK refractive surgery.
Dr Ronald Yeoh is Medical Director, Founding Partner & Senior Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Eye & Retina Surgeons, Camden Medical. Dr Yeoh provides expertise in cataract and diseases of the retina. His main areas of interest are in the latest developments in standard and advanced cataract surgery, the use of ultrasound or femtosecond laser technology and the latest advanced technology intraocular lens implants. He is also a dedicated educator of the next generation of eye surgeons in Singapore and the region.
Dr Yvonne Ling is a Senior Consultant with the Paediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus Department at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She graduated from the University of Singapore, and obtained the Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She practices general ophthalmology and subspecialises in Adult Strabismus & Paediatric Ophthalmology. As the first clinical head of Strabismus & Paediatric Ophthalmology subspecialty in SNEC, she has been instrumental in setting up and establishing the various clinical services important in the subspecialty. These include management of strabismus for adults and children, amblyopia, retinopathy of prematurity, botulinum injections for strabismus, myopia, retinoblastoma, genetic eye diseases and electrophysiology support. In addition to her subspecialty, she has particular interest in helping with vision rehabilitation of children and adults.
Dr Loo Yunhua is a Consultant in the Ocular Inflammation and Immunology department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She also holds joint appointments as Clinician Scientist at the Singapore Eye Research Institute and Clinical Instructor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.
A/Prof Liu Yu-Chi is a Clinician Scientist at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She received her medical degree (MD) from Taipei Medical University, Taiwan in 2005. She gained her specialist accreditation in Ophthalmology in 2009 and completed her fellowship training in Cornea and External Eye Diseases in Taiwan. She obtained the Master of Clinical Investigation (MCI) from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2015, and PhD in Clinical Science from Duke-NUS Medical School in 2022.
Clinical Associate Professor Sunny Shen is a Senior Consultant of Oculoplastic Department at Singapore National Eye Centre. Clinical Associate Professor Shen graduated with merit from the University of Hong Kong and received his Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) degree from the National University of Singapore. He completed his Ophthalmology training with specialist accreditation and was admitted as Fellow in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Ophthalmologists, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Dr Xiaomeng Wang is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Vison Research, Duke-NUS Medical School. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Wang worked as an Associate Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University Singapore. Dr. Wang obtained her BSc. in Biology at Beijing Normal University, China and her PhD in Genetics at Newcastle University, UK. She subsequently underwent post-doctoral training at Manchester University and University College London, UK.
Dr Ng Wei Yan obtained his Medical Degree from the National University of Singapore in 2010 and completed his Ophthalmology residency training in Singapore. He obtained his post-graduate Ophthalmology qualifications in 2016 and subsequently underwent a further 2 years of advance surgical training. He attained his specialist accreditation in 2020 and is currently pursuing his paediatric ophthalmology subspecialty training at the Singapore National Eye Centre. His research interest includes retinopathy of prematurity, artificial intelligence and blockchain in healthcare. He has published several papers during his training years.
Prof Umapathi N.Thirugnanam is Senior Consultant, Department of Neurology, National Neuroscience Institute and a Senior Consultant, Singapore National Eye Centre.
Dr Tan Ting Fang is a Resident at the Singapore National Eye Center. She graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (Class of 2020). She was awarded the Khong Ban Tze Gold Medal in Orthopaedic Surgery, and awarded Dean’s List for the years 2018 and 2020. She has completed the SNEC-SERI Clinical Academic Fellowship Program and is part of the Singhealth Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Health team. She has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and represented at several international research conferences on global and clinical eye care, with particular interest in integrating AI and digital technology into healthcare and Ophthalmology.
Dr Tan Tien-En is a Consultant with the Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre, and is also a sub-specialty fellow with the Medical Retina and Surgical Retina Departments, under the Advanced Clinical Specialist Program. His current practice includes the management of cataracts, and retinal conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr Shweta Singhal is a Senior Consultant in the Neuro-Ophthalmology department at Singapore National Eye Centre. She also holds additional research and teaching appointments including Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology with Duke-NUS Medical School and Clinical Lecturer with Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. In her clinical practice at SNEC, she treats patients with general ophthalmic conditions, performs cataract surgery and is currently pursuing further sub specialist training in neuro-ophthalmology. She is also involved in teaching undergraduate medical students, ophthalmic residents and allied health professionals.
Dr Wiryasaputra is a Senior Consultant with both the Medical Retina and Ocular Inflammation and Immunology Departments at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She received her undergraduate medical degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and completed her ophthalmology training under the auspices of the National Healthcare Group ACGME accredited Ophthalmology Residency Programme. During her training, she served as Deputy Chief Resident and a Clinical Lecturer with both Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University. Following her qualification as an ophthalmologist locally, she undertook further subspecialty training in uveitis and medical retina at Sydney Eye Hospital, Australia.
Prof Saw Seang Mei is the SERI Professor of Ophthalmology Research, Duke-NUS Medical School; Head, Myopia Unit, Singapore Eye Research Institute, and Professor of Epidemiology, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore (NUS). She is the Deputy Co-Chair (Biomedical) of the NUS Institutional Review Board (IRB). She received her MBBS degree from the National University of Singapore and both her MPH and PhD from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and her research expertise is the epidemiology, genetics and treatment of myopia. She has established the natural history, role of outdoors and nearwork in myopia aetiology and developed new gadgets and treatments for myopia.
Dr Saadia Farooqui is a Senior Consultant in the Paediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus Department at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She obtained her Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine from the Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan. She began her residency in Ophthalmology at the Singapore National Eye Centre in 2011. She completed her Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from NUS in 2015. During her training, she was awarded the SingHealth Best Resident (Ophthalmology) in 2015. She obtained specialist accreditation in Ophthalmology in 2017. Dr Farooqui is also a clinical lecturer with NUS and is actively involved in undergraduate education. She is currently undergoing subspecialty fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus.
Dr Ranjana Mathur is a Senior Consultant in the Medical Retina Department in Singapore National Eye Centre and a Clinical Assistant Professor with Duke-NUS Medical School. Following completion of her Master in Ophthalmology and Diplomat of National Board degree in India, she obtained the degree of Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the National University of Singapore and Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 1998. She joined Singapore National Eye centre faculty as Associate Consultant in Vitreo-Retinal service after completion of her specialist training and medical retina fellowship in 2004.
Dr Tan Peng Yi is a Consultant with the Refractive Surgery Department at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). Dr Tan graduated from Newcastle University, United Kingdom, with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 2010 and went on to pursue Ophthalmology training in SNEC. He obtained his Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2018 and his Ophthalmology Specialist accreditation in 2020. During his residency training, he served as the Lead Resident (2018-2019) and a member of the Infection Control team. He also completed the SingHealth Residency Leadership Programme to enhance his team leadership skills. Dr Tan is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education as well as voluntary community eye screening projects.
Dr Milton Chew is a Consultant with the Ocular Inflammation & Immunology Department at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. His clinical expertise lies in cataract surgery, with a focus on presbyopia-correcting cataract surgery using multifocal intraocular lenses (MFIOLs), extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) lenses, and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS). He also subspecialises in the management of ocular inflammation and uveitis, including the use of systemic immunosuppressive and biologic therapies for non-infectious uveitis.
Dr Melissa Wong is Head and Senior Consultant of the Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre. She obtained her medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2005 and qualified as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2009. She obtained her Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) qualifications in 2010 and completed a further 3 years of advance surgical training at the Singapore National Eye Centre.
Professor Marcus Ang is the Head & Senior Consultant with the Corneal & External Eye Disease and Refractive Surgery Service at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He also serves as Advisor at the SNEC Myopia Center. He was awarded Dean’s List at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the Best Houseman Award followed by Best Registrar Award in his early clinical practice. His other early academic achievements include the Ministry of Health Scholarship, Masters in Clinical Investigation (NUS) and Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology, NUS). He was appointed Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) after being awarded with four FAMS Gold Medals. He further developed his clinical specialty in Cornea Transplantation and was rewarded with a Honorary Consultant position at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK. Recently, he attained his PhD in Ophthalmology with a focus on corneal imaging.
Dr Tan Licia is a Senior Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre under the Oculoplastic and Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department. Dr Tan attended medical school at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at National University of Singapore as a Public Commission Service Merit scholar where she was awarded the Benjamin Chew Gold Medal in Medical Ethics, and subsequently completed her residency training in ophthalmology at Singapore National Eye Centre. She obtained her Masters in Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2016, Ophthalmology Specialist accreditation in 2018, and was conferred Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmology in the same year.
Dr Foo Li Lian is a Consultant with the Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor in Engineering (Chemical) (1st Class Honors) in 2008, received the Dean’s List and NUS Awards for Study Abroad (Exchange Awards) in 2006, and was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) by Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in 2012 and certified by Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) in 2013. She embarked on Ophthalmology training subsequently and became a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologist in 2016. In 2017, she received her Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmology and Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine.
Prof Schmetterer is head of Ocular Imaging and Scientific Director at SERI. His interests span a wide range of imaging from development of novel technology towards applications in preclinical research and clinics. Prof Schmetterer is also interested in clinical trials and is involved in many studies in retina, glaucoma, cornea and dry eye. He has published more than 390 peer reviewed publications, was invited for more than 200 lectures; including more than 15 key note lectures and been awarded more than 30 million Euro in research grant funding. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of Progress in Retinal and Eye Research, Scientific Reports, Acta Ophthalmologica, Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Current Eye Research and 5 other journals.
Clinical Associate Professor Sharon Tow is a Senior Consultant in the Neuro-Ophthalmology department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She completed her medical training at the University of Sydney. She underwent basic surgical training in ophthalmology in Edinburgh, Scotland where she attained the FRCSEd and continued her advanced surgical training in ophthalmology at the Singapore National Eye Centre, Singapore. She then embarked on the subspecialty of Neuro-ophthalmology, completing advanced Fellowship training in Neuro-ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore in 2001. On her return to SNEC, she helped develop the Neuro-ophthalmology department, and since 2006, has been the head of this busy service.
Dr Daniel Chua is an Senior Consultant with the General Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department, Singapore National Eye Centre. He obtained his medical degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2005 before completing a Masters in Clinical Investigation (NUS) in 2011. During his training in the SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Program, Dr Chua was awarded the SingHealth Best Resident (Ophthalmology) in 2012. He obtained his Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2014 and his Ophthalmology Specialist accreditation from Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2016.Dr Chua’s current clinical practice includes general, cataract and comprehensive ophthalmology and he is subspecializing in the field of laser refractive surgery.
Dr Woo is a Senior Consultant ophthalmologist in the Cornea & External Eye Disease Department of the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). Dr Woo has an active practice which specializes in cornea, anterior segment disorders and corneal transplantation in both adults and children, but also includes cataract surgery, refractive surgery and comprehensive (general) ophthalmology. He also runs the paediatric cornea service at both SNEC and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Professor Jodhbir Mehta is a Senior Consultant in the Corneal & External Eye Disease department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He graduated from Guys and St Thomas’s Medical School, University of London, UK in 1995. He completed his basic and advanced specialist training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, UK and sub-specialised fellowship training in Cornea External Disease and Refractive Surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC).
Dr Loo is the Head and Senior Consultant in the Neuro-Ophthalmology department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She is a visiting Consultant to Changi General Hospital and the National University Hospital. She is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Clinical Associate Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School.
Professor Ian Yeo is a Senior Consultant vitreoretinal surgeon managing both medical and surgical retina conditions at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He is also a clinical lecturer with the NUS-YLL medical school. He is also Senior Adjunct Scientist with the Singapore Eye Research Institute. His research interest includes age related macular degeneration (AMD) and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), two very important blinding conditions in Singapore.
Dr Valencia Foo is a Consultant with the Oculoplastic and Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Departments at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. Dr Foo completed her medical training at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2015. She went on to complete her specialist training in Ophthalmology at SNEC in 2023.
Dr Yvonne Chung Hsi-Wei is the Head & Senior Consultant with the Oculoplastic Department at Singapore National Eye Centre. She graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’s School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, United Kingdom in 2001. She underwent a 3-year research stint on stem cells and biomaterials funded by Singapore’s National Medical Research Council Scholarship and the Mayo Foundation at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota from 2004-2006. Upon her return to Singapore, she completed her basic and advanced surgical training in Ophthalmology and was admitted as a fellow of the Academy of Medicine in 2013. Dr Chung’s surgical interests lied in reconstructive surgery and ophthalmic pathology of the eye and its periorbita.
Dr Ong Hon Shing is a Senior Consultant of the Corneal & External Eye Disease Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre and the deputy clinical director of the Singapore Eye Bank. He obtained his medical degree from Barts and the London School of Medicine, University of London, United Kingdom. His clinical areas of expertise include corneal and external diseases (including ocular surface diseases, dry eyes, blepharitis, allergic eye diseases, pterygium surgery, corneal infections), advanced techniques in corneal transplantation, cataract surgery (including femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery and the use of premium intraocular lenses), and refractive surgery (including femtosecond LASIK and other refractive surgical options).
Dr Chan Hiok Hong is a Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), specialising in Medical Retina and Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology. He graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2013. During medical school, he was awarded the Gold Medal and Book Prize in Ophthalmology. He completed his residency training at SNEC, earning his Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2019. In 2021, he achieved specialist accreditation in Ophthalmology and became a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Professor Louis Tong is a Senior Consultant with the Corneal & External Eye Disease Department at Singapore National Eye Centre. He graduated in 1993 with basic medical degree from the National University of Singapore, registered as a medical practitioner in 1994 and achieved accreditation as an ophthalmologist by the Singapore Medical Council in November 2004. He completed training in ophthalmology at various centres in England (1996-2000) and in Singapore (2000-2004). He completed a 2 year overseas cornea research fellowship at the Ocular Surface Centre, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, as part of A*STAR national science scholarship. Professor Tong holds a tenured Professor appointment at the Duke-NUS Medical School and several appointments at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) including Principal Clinician Scientist and Head of Ocular Surface Research Group.
Professor Gemmy Cheung is a Senior Consultant of the Medical Retina Department and Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department at Singapore National Eye Centre. She is also the Head of the Retina Research Group at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) and Professor of Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore. Professor Cheung has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles mostly in Age-related Macular Degeneration and Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy, and has completed several clinical trials in anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapies in her capacity as a Principle Investigator. She is currently a Principle Investigator for two ongoing large research programmes funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council and Biomedical Research Council. She has given more than100 invited lectures and served as an Instructor on courses at the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) and American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) congress.
A/Prof Gavin Tan is the Head of the Surgical Retinal Department of the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC); the Vice Chair for Strategy, Innovation, and organisational transformation; and the Head of the Ocular Diagnostics Department. He is a visiting senior consultant at the KK Women and children’s hospital, the biggest maternal and child hospital in Singapore where he pioneered the establishment of the paediatric retina service. He also played a pivotal role in founding the country’s first ocular oncology and brachytherapy service. He also holds appointment as a clinician scientist at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) and as an Associate professor with the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. In addition, A/Prof Tan is the Clinical Director of the SNEC Ocular Reading Centre (SORC), where he spearheaded the development of Singapore’s diabetic retinopathy (DR) telemedicine screening program and successfully integrated the artificial intelligence into DR screening. His primary research focus is on diabetic retinopathy in which he has secured major grants in multimodal imaging in retinopathy, as well as the use of AI and deep retinal imaging to explore the eye as a window to diabetic complications. A strong advocate for digital health and innovation, A/Prof Tan has developed telemedicine-based virtual imaging clinics and digital solutions aimed at enhancing patient care.
Dr Stephen Ng is a Senior Consultant in the Oculoplastic Department of the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He obtained his medical degree from the University of Otago in New Zealand in 1987. In 1997 he gained Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO). From 1997 to 2000, he undertook post-fellowship training in England including a fellowship in oculoplastic, lacrimal & orbital surgery at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. In 2000, Dr Ng was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic, Oculoplastic & Orbital Surgeon at Waikato Hospital, New Zealand. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Australian & New Zealand Society of Oculoplastic & Reconstructive Surgeons in 2002. In 2002, he was also appointed as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland. He has twice been awarded the RANZCO “Award for Excellence in Training”.
Dr Farah is a Consultant of the Medical Retina Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre. She graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She completed her Ophthalmology residency training in Singapore and was appointed as Lead Resident of SNEC Ophthalmology Residency Programme in 2021, and Head of Welfare & IT, Residents Committee in 2019. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth), and received a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology (M Med) in 2020. As a keen educator, she is passionate in teaching medical students, junior residents and nurses. She was recognised for her efforts and was appointed as SingHealth Associate in Education and Programme Lead, Optometry Training, as well as Clinical Instructor in SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme (EYE ACP).
Clinical Associate Professor Edmund Wong is a Senior Consultant of the Surgical Retina Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1991. He obtained his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998, and in the same year, obtained the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) degree from the National University of Singapore. He completed his fellowship with the Vitreo-retinal Department in Singapore National Eye Centre in 2001 and a fellowship in advanced vitreo-retina at Beetham Eye Institute, Joslin Diabetes Centre, Harvard Medical School in 2003.
Clinical Associate Professor Wong is Senior Consultant in the Surgical Retina Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He is Chair of the Centre’s Professionalism and Ethics Council, the Chair of the Health Performance Office and Vice Chair of the Centre’s Quality Assurance Committee. He was Head of the Retina Service and later the Retina Centre from 2005, completing his term in 2016. He was a member of the Centre’s Strategic Planning Committee/Executive Committee from 2008 completing his term in 2017. He represents Singapore on the Council of the ASEAN Ophthalmological Society and is the Chair of the Society’s Scientific Committee. He is a member of the Singapore Medical Council’s Complaints Panel.
Dr Deborah Tan is a Senior Consultant with the Cataract and Comprehensive, and Paediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus Services at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She is also a visiting senior consultant and the immediate past Head of Eye Centre at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Dr Tan obtained her medical degree from National University of Singapore (NUS). She is a member of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology and an accredited Ophthalmology Specialist by the Singapore Medical Council. After her specialist training at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), she obtained her Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) by NUS, and subsequently received further sub-specialty training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus.
Associate Professor Danny Cheung is a Senior Consultant ophthalmologist with the Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Surgical Retina Departments at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He specialises in the management of cataract as well as both medical and surgical retinal conditions. He is also a Senior Faculty and Associate Professor with the SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Program.
Assoc Prof Daniel Ting is a Senior Consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon with the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and concurrently, Associate Professor, SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme (ACP) and Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor and an Innovation Mentor at Stanford University. He is also the Director of Singapore Health Service (SingHealth) AI Office, SNEC Chief Data and Digital Officer, and Head of AI and Digital Innovation in Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI). After graduating as the SingHealth Valedictorian across all specialties, he was awarded the US-ASEAN J. William Fulbright Scholarship to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Applied Physics Laboratory to pursue the use of artificial intelligence, big data analytics and telemedicine in the field of ophthalmology.
Clinical Associate Professor Chan is a Senior Consultant with the Medical Retina Department at Singapore National Eye Centre, having been with the Centre since 2000. She sees and performs surgeries on patients with general eye complaints such as cataracts as well as patients with retinal problems, including those with age-related macular degeneration; diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy; central and branch retinal vein occlusions; and inherited retinal dystrophies.
Dr Reuben Foo obtained his Medical Degree from the National University of Singapore in 2012 and underwent Ophthalmology residency training at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He served as the Lead Resident of the SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Programme in 2019 and was the Vice-Chair of the Students’ and Residents’ Relations Sub-Committee from 2016 to 2018. He obtained his postgraduate MMed(Ophth) qualification in 2017 and his specialist accreditation in 2020. He has completed a combined Neuro-Ophthalmology and Glaucoma fellowship training in SNEC in 2022 and is serving currently as a Consultant in both departments. He has a particular interest in managing conditions related to the optic nerve.
Dr Choo Chai Teck is the Clinical Director (Aesthetic Eyeplastic) and Senior Consultant with the Oculoplastic Department. He is the past president and founding member of Asia-Pacific Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has organized and conducted numerous regional oculoplastic teaching courses. He has spearheaded the studies on some important microscopic anatomical features of oriental lower lid and upper lid. Dr Choo has been invited by numerous hospitals in the region and has travelled widely to impart his oculoplastic surgical skills. He is an Editorial Board Member, ORBIT Journal and an Invited Editorial Board Reviewer of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Journal. He is the President, Singapore Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and International Member, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Clinical Associate Professor Quah graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1987 and was trained in Ophthalmology at the Singapore General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). From 1998 – 1999 he was an International Fellow at The Hospital For Sick Children in Toronto, where he underwent training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus. He has won the prestigious John Gaby Best Fellow Research Prize at University of Toronto for producing the best research work amongst Ophthalmology Fellows at the University in 1999. In his formative years, Clinical Associate Professor had also won various awards for his research writings including the 1st prize in Institute of Biology national essay writing competition on “Ethics of Bioengineering” (1981) and SNEC Merit Award for Research (1996).
Beau Fenner, MD, PhD, is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Department of Medical Retina at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He completed undergraduate and PhD studies in Molecular Biology in Western Australia prior to undertaking postdoctoral research at the National University of Singapore and the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. He completed his MD studies at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Ophthalmology residency at the Singapore National Eye Centre, after which he undertook clinical fellowship training in Medical Retina at the Singapore National Eye Centre and additional subspecialty training in Inherited Retinal Diseases at the University of Iowa. In addition to his clinical work, he is actively engaged in clinical and translational research of Inherited Retinal Diseases, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Retinal Imaging.
Associate Professor Audrey Chia graduated from the University of Sydney and completed her ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital. She returned to Singapore in 2000 and worked as an Ophthalmology Registrar at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) before doing a Paediatric Ophthalmology fellowship at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London. She is currently Head of the Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Department and a Senior Consultant at the Eye Centre, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Associate Professor Chia’s research interests include strabismus, amblyopia, retinopathy of prematurity, medical and non-medical control of myopia. She is a Senior Clinical Investigator and co-heads the Myopia research unit at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI).
Clinical Associate Professor Anna Tan is the Head & Senior Consultant with the Medical Retina Department at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2004 after completing her basic medical degree, and obtained first-class honours with an additional Advanced Medical Science degree conjoint with Imperial College, London. She returned to Singapore to complete her ophthalmology subspecialty training (Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine Singapore) in 2013 and obtained her Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in December the same year. She completed multiple medical retina fellowships at the Singapore National Eye Centre, the Ophthalmology Department at the University of Bonn under Prof Frank Holz and the Vitreous Retina Macula New York (VRMNY) under Dr. Lawrence Yannuzzi and Dr. K Bailey Freund.
Dr Anita Chan is the Head & Senior Consultant with the Ocular Inflammation & Immunology Department at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She practices ophthalmic pathology at SGH and is the Clinical director of Ophthalmic Pathology Service in SNEC. She also heads a National medical research Council (NMRC) grant funded Translational ophthalmic pathology platform (TOPP) at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI). Currrently, she is the Institution Wellness Officer (IWO) for SNEC.
Dr Andrew Tsai is an adult and paediatric retinal specialist, Senior Consultant with the Surgical Retina Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and Clinical Associate Professor with the SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme. He is the Program Director of Fellowships and Director of Operating Theatre and Inpatient Services, SNEC.
Dr Kiew is a glaucoma consultant at Singapore National Eye Centre and Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS medical school. She runs the uveitic glaucoma service at SNEC and is the current program director for the Singhealth Ophthalmology Residency Program.
Assoc Prof Monisha Nongpiur, is a Clinician Scientist and Junior Principal Investigator at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. She balances both clinical and research related work in Glaucoma, and her main clinical research interest is primary angle closure glaucoma. Her research is focused on a better understanding of the clinical course, risk factors/disease mechanisms, genetics, and also to develop risk assessment models for the condition. She currently holds academic appointment at Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore as Associate Professor, Ophthalmology and Visual Science Academic Clinical Program. Dr Nongpiur is a member of the Associate Advisory Board of the World Glaucoma Association and the WGA Education committee.
Dr Fiona Lim is a Senior Consultant with the Glaucoma department at Singapore National Eye Centre. graduated from National University of Singapore, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2010 as one of the top medical students in her cohort with distinction in surgery. She did her ophthalmology residency training in Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and was awarded the Ministry of Health Training Award for her specialist training in 2013. She obtained her Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) by National University of Singapore in 2016, completed her residency and attained specialist accreditation in 2018. She qualified as Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmology (London) that same year. She completed a 2-year cataract and glaucoma fellowship in SNEC in 2020.
Dr Rachel Chong is a Senior Consultant in the Glaucoma Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre, where she runs a dedicated clinical service for high myopia patients suspected to have glaucoma or who are presently receiving treatment for glaucoma in addition to her general ophthalmology practice. Dr Chong was awarded the National Science Scholarship by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Singapore in 2001 to pursue higher education from an undergraduate level up to a PhD. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Physiological Sciences from the University of Oxford in 2004 and received her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) with Merit from the Royal Free and University College Medical School, London in 2007.
Associate Professor Perera is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Glaucoma Department at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) with an interest in novel surgeries and imaging. He has commercialized two devices for cataract surgery licensed to companies in India and Germany. Supported by competitive research grants totalling over S$1.5M as PI, his core work has yielded nine patents. Associate Professor Perera has been an invited lecturer for over 100 conferences, written five book chapters and 138 peer reviewed publications. His most recent role as the Deputy Director of the Medical Technology office for SingHealth seeks to promote this promising area to other specialties, now disbursing $6M of catalyst grant funding.
Dr Jocelyn Chua is a Senior Consultant in the Glaucoma Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre. She specialises in the management of both adult and paediatric glaucoma. Dr Chua had obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from The National University of Singapore in 2001. She went on to complete the Basic and Advanced Specialist Trainings in Ophthalmology at the Singapore National Eye Centre, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and National University Hospital. From 2009-2010, she trained as a Glaucoma fellow at the Singapore National Eye Centre. She was then awarded the SingHealth Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Award in 2010 to further pursue a niche in paediatric glaucoma at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK (2010-2011).
Dr. Ruben Hemelings is a researcher specializing in artificial intelligence and ophthalmic imaging. With a PhD from KU Leuven that won the 2022 McKinsey & Company Scientific Award, his research focuses on developing deep learning models to detect and predict glaucoma (progression) from retinal photographs. He is the first author of multiple works, including G-RISK, an AI tool that quantifies structural glaucoma damage from fundus photos. Currently affiliated with the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), Dr. Hemelings is involved in translational research at the intersection of clinical ophthalmology, AI, and population health. His work emphasizes real-world applicability, from large-scale screening to individualized risk prediction.
Chimene Lim is an optometrist and CEO of First Eyewear Centre in Singapore. She holds a degree in Optometry and Vision Sciences from Cardiff University and a Graduate Certificate in Optometry from the National University of Singapore. With extensive experience across practices in United Kingdom and Singapore, she specialises in primary eye care, myopia management, and clinical detection of ocular disease. Chimene also serves as Secretary of the Singapore Optometric Association and is passionate about elevating community eye care standards through education, clinical excellence, and collaborative care models.
Nazurah is a Nurse Clinician and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in Ophthalmology, specialising in Glaucoma and Retina services since October 2023. She holds a Master of Nursing from the National University of Singapore and completed a 12-month internship covering glaucoma, retina, and general ophthalmology.

Ms Reena is a Senior Optometrist at the Singapore National Eye Centre, with a subspecialty in contact lens practice. She provides comprehensive optometric care, including refraction, and serves as a physician extender in specialist outpatient clinics. Ms Reena is part of the Contact Lens Service, where her clinical work focuses on fitting specialty contact lenses for complex ocular conditions. In addition to clinical practice, she contributes to optometry education through clinical teaching and supervision, supporting the development of competent and safe practitioners.
Mary Masih is a senior registered nurse with 37 years of experience, 32 of which have been dedicated to ophthalmology. Throughout her career, Mary has been an innovative and passionate leader, setting up clinical services, mentoring future leaders, and driving improvements in patient care. Her journey includes six years as Matron of a large satellite service and six years as Head of Nursing before taking on her current role as Lead for Pathway to Excellence at Moorfields—one of only a handful of hospitals in the UK to achieve this prestigious designation. Dr. R. Venkatesh, a gold medalist in Ophthalmology from Annamalai University, completed his residency at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. He specializes in cataract and glaucoma, with particular expertise in Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS). His research has played a key role in establishing the cost-effectiveness and clinical efficacy of MSICS, especially in resource-limited settings. He is a strong advocate for glaucoma family screening and has contributed significantly to developing technology-enabled community outreach models in ophthalmology. He has also played an active role in developing eye hospitals through LAICO across Asia and Africa, including the recent project at Cape Coast, Ghana. He is actively involved in training AOPs, ophthalmology residents, glaucoma fellows, and short-term trainees from across the globe in cataract surgical skills at Aravind. Dr. Venkatesh has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and 12 book chapters, and has presented widely at national and international scientific forums. His recognitions include the APAO Achievement Award (2018), IIRSI Film Festival Award (2019), and multiple honors at the ASCRS Film Festival, including runner-up awards in 2022 and 2023, and winner awards in 2024 and 2025. He is also the recipient of the ASCRS Foundation’s prestigious Chang- Crandall Humanitarian Award for 2026. He serves on the IAPB Climate Change Working Group and is an advisory board member of EyeSustain. Prof (Dr) Baskaran Mani is Director, Glaucoma services and Deputy Director (Research) in Sankara Nethralaya, India, was a Clinician Scientist at SERI/SNEC. He had his postgraduation in ophthalmology (India) and PhD from NUS (Singapore). He mentors postgraduates, fellows, optometrists and PhDs. He has more than 350 publications (H-Index – 65), 8 book chapters, 6 co-patents, 150+ lectures and was part of CGS and SEED suveys, RCTs in India and Singapore. Dr. Konrad Schargel is Chairman of the Glaucoma Division at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital & Research Center, Riyadh. Benjamin Xu , M.D., Ph.D. received his B.S. from Yale University and M.D. and Ph.D. in neuroscience from Columbia University. He is now acting chief of the glaucoma service at the USC Roski Eye Institute. She is currently the Head of Glaucoma service at L V Prasad Eye Institute, where she has been a faculty member since 2007. Dr. Senthil specializes in managing refractory adult and pediatric glaucomas, with a particular interest in glaucoma drainage implants and secondary glaucomas and genetics of inherited childhood glaucoma. She has published over 173 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored several book chapters and received multiple awards inn national and international fora for her work, including Dr.Vengal Rao Medal in 2012 and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement award in 2018.
Professor Schmetterer is the Scientific Director and Head of Ocular Imaging at SERI. His research interests span a wide range of imaging from development of novel technology towards applications in preclinical research and clinics. Professor Schmetterer is also interested in clinical trials and is involved in many studies in retina, glaucoma, cornea and dry eye.
Professor Norlina Ramli graduated with a Distinction from Newcastle University Medical School, UK. She pursued ophthalmology specialty qualifications in the UK from Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London and later obtained Masters in Ophthalmology qualification from University Malaya with a distinction in her thesis. She pursued Glaucoma subspecialty training at Singapore National Eye Centre. She has published over 50 publications in indexed peer reviewed journals and has a H index of 12 with over 400 citations. She is frequently invited as a speaker at numerous local and International academic meetings in Ophthalmology. She is also Deputy Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Ophthalmology and honorary secretary for Malaysian Glaucoma Society. Dr. Mary Qiu is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Chicago. She specializes in glaucoma surgery and cataract surgery in patients with glaucoma. She completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford University, medical school at UCSF, residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, and glaucoma fellowship at the Cole Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic.
Her clinical practice focuses on the surgical and medical management of complex glaucoma patients, and she has a special clinical interest in neovascular glaucoma and tube revisions/exchanges. Her academic work is related to neovascular glaucoma, outcomes after both minimally invasive as well as traditional glaucoma surgical techniques, developing new surgical techniques, and glaucoma education for ophthalmology residents. Dr. Qiu has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, edited a textbook about neovascular glaucoma, and presented her work locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

At SERI he is the Co Head of Bioengineering and Devices works closely with Business Development team to commercialize devices in glaucoma and cataract. His most recent role as the deputy director of the Med Tech office for SingHealth seeks to promote this promising area to other specialties and has disbursed >S$6M for innovation. Supported by competitive research grants totaling over S$4.0M as PI, his core work has yielded 8 patents. Dr. Catherine Jui-Ling Liu is professor of Ophthalmology, School of Medicine in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taipei, Taiwan. She was the chairperson of the Department of Ophthalmology, Taipei Veterans General Hospital from 2015 to 2022, and President of the Ophthalmological Society of Taiwan from 2017 to 2020. Clin Assoc Prof Ho is a Senior Consultant and the immediate past Head of Glaucoma Service in Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), a position she held for almost a decade. During her tenure she helped developed one of the largest departments in SNEC with specialised comprehensive services for all types of glaucoma including childhood glaucoma, as well as the step-down Eye Clinic models of care for the management of stable glaucoma patients. She holds both a Paediatrics as well as an Ophthalmology specialist degrees. She was awarded the Wong Hock Boon Gold Medal for being the most outstanding candidate in the Master of Medicine (Paeds) Examinations.

Ying Han – Professor of Ophthalmology in the Department of Ophthalmology at UCSF. I’m the Medical Director of the glaucoma service and Medical Director of the Ophthalmology Department.
In addition to my clinical work in cataract and glaucoma, I am an NIH funded clinical researcher studying glaucoma surgical outcome, especially focusing on glaucoma drainage device (GDD)’s surgery outcomes and primary angle closure diseases. My research also includes designing novel GDDs to minimize scar formation after the surgery. I have received NEI K21 study a Fibrosis-free Glaucoma Drainage Implants and UG1 fundings to conduct the DECLARE trial (Glaucoma Drainage Device and Endothelial Cell Loss Compare Trial). I have over 90 peer-reviewed publications two book chapters. I currently serve as Chair for research committee at American Glaucoma society (AGS).
Dr Girard is currently an Associate Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School, and Principal Investigator I at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) where he heads the Ophthalmic Engineering & Innovation Laboratory (OEIL), and co-heads the Bioengineering & Devices Research Group. Dr Girard has strong expertise in Ophthalmic Engineering with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Imaging, Ocular Biomechanics, and Ophthalmic Devices. His research has especially focused on optic neuropathies (including glaucoma), but also myopia, corneal disorders, and cataract. Associate Professor Michael Coote MBBS FRANZCO GAICD is an active glaucoma surgeon, researcher and has administrative roles. He is a serial creator: he developed a disposable tonometer, a tele-ophthalmology platform, a new problem based electronic medical record for ophthalmology, a new ophthalmic speculum and a new electrode for ERG recording. He developed the “CERA model” of bleb porosity testing and is the founder of a start-up developing a new drainage device based upon the insights. He developed the GONE program for ONH examination, and has co-authored a text-book on the Optic Nerve in Glaucoma. Dr. Robert Edward Ang is a senior consultant and Head of Cornea and Refractive Surgery Services at the Asian Eye Institute in Makati City, Philippines. He undertook two fellowship training programs (Glaucoma, then Cornea and Refractive Surgery) at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, his passion includes teaching fellows and residents and performing research studies on presbyopia treatment, intraocular lens technology and glaucoma devices. Having obtained his MBBS from the National University of Singapore, Prof Aung obtained the Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1997. He completed a glaucoma fellowship in the Singapore National Eye Centre from 1999-2000, and from 2000-2003, he trained at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London and Moorfields Eye Hospital; and was awarded a PhD in Molecular Genetics from University College London in 2004.
Professor Aung is a clinician scientist, with clinical practice focusing on glaucoma and research interests in angle closure glaucoma and glaucoma genetics. Professor Aung’s research has secured more than SGD50 million in competitive research grant funding. He is currently the Lead PI of the Large Collaborative Grant (LCG), “Tackling and Reducing Glaucoma Blindness with Emerging Technologies (TARGET), a $25 million multi-disciplinary and multicenter program grant awarded by the National Medical Research Council, Singapore in 2022.
Professor Aung currently has more than 800 publications (h-index 104) including 15 major papers in Nature Genetics (6 as First or last author) as well as multiple papers in JAMA and Lancet. Prof Aung has delivered more than 300 Invited Lectures at many international meetings around the world including several named lectures. Mr Leon Au is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in glaucoma and cornea. He graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1998 with an ophthalmology prize of the year. Damon Wong is an Associate Professora Principal Investigatorin the Ocular Imaging Department, Singapore Eye Research Institute and SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme. Masaru Inatani, is the chairman at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medical Science, University of Fukui, Japan; a director of the Japan Glaucoma Society, a director of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society. After Graduating from Kyoto University and completing residency in Kyoto University Hospital, he was awarded a PhD from Kyoto University Graduate School. After the lecturer at Kumamoto University, he has been the chairman at University of Fukui since 2011. Dr. Shalini Mohan, is Professor and Head of Glaucoma Services, Ophthalmology, GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, with over 20 years of experience. Dr Vivien Yip, is a Senior Consultant with the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She is also the head of Glaucoma and Comprehensive Eye Care services at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute. Dr Yip leads her team in optimising clinical care for her patients through new care models with a focus on timely intervention and wholistic management. Prof. Dr. Xiangjia Zhu, Director of the Cataract & Lens Refractive Surgery Department at Eye & ENT Hospital, Fudan University, is a prestigious recipient of the NFSC Excellent Young Scientists Fund. She has advanced clinical outcomes for highly myopic patients, elucidated mechanisms of related complications (cataract, glaucoma, etc.), and first identified anxiety as a systemic complication of high myopia. She is the current Director of Faculty Development for Singapore Eye Research Institute and the Academic Vice Chair in Faculty and Professional Development Eye-ACP at Duke NUS. She is also the co-Head of the Ocular Therapeutics and Drug Delivery Group at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. Professor Wong is the founding President of the Glaucoma Association Singapore and past Executive Director of the National Health Innovation Centre.
Dr. Sushmita Kaushik, a leading glaucoma specialist, is a Professor of Ophthalmology at PGIMER, Chandigarh. She has authored 181 peer-reviewed publications and 53 textbook chapters. Internationally acclaimed, she is a Visiting Professor at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, USA, and KKESH Riyadh, and an invited member of the CGRN. Prof Ramanjit Sihota, MD, FRCS, FRCOphth, was heading the Glaucoma research facility and clinical services at Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, for 14 years. Dr Sihota spearheaded the National Task force in Glaucoma, which trained District Ophthalmologists across India in Glaucoma management. She has published over 225 papers in peer reviewed, indexed international journals. She has written – ‘Practical approach to Glaucoma” for use by PGs and general practitioners.She was the recipient of the ARVO India 2024 Dr Badrinath oration. Prof Sihota has been in the lifetime and annual Stanford lists of the top 2% of researchers worldwide for Ophthalmology.
Dr. Shoji graduated from Niigata University School of Medicine in 1988 and began his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Tokyo Hospital that same year. In 1991, he began researching glaucoma under Prof. Makoto Araie. He joined Kitasato University School of Medicine in 1999 and became chief professor in 2016. That same year, he presided over the 27th Annual Meeting of the Japan Glaucoma Society in Yokohama. In 2024, he succeeded Prof. Makoto Aihara as President of the Japan Glaucoma Society.
Seungsoo Rho is a clinician-scientist whose work is focused on investigation of novel glaucoma treatments with biomaterials. As Seungsoo is one of the leading glaucoma surgeons in CHA Bundang Medical Center (Seongnam, Republic of Korea) and a Professor of Ophthalmology in School of Medicine, CHA University, his research is largely inspired by glaucoma patient care in practice. Mineo Ozaki directs Ozaki Eye Hospital in Miyazaki, Japan, and serves as Adjunct Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, Adjunct Clinician Scientist at Singapore Eye Research Institute, and Lecturer at University of Miyazaki. For nearly 30 years, he has conducted clinical and basic research on exfoliation syndrome and exfoliation glaucoma. He founded the Japanese Consortium for Genetic Research on exfoliation syndrome with Singapore National Eye Centre and Genome Institute of Singapore, and works with Prof. Tin Aung and international collaborators. His research on glaucoma genetics and surgical treatment has been published in journals including JAMA, Nature Genetics, and Ophthalmology.
Maria Catherina Nasol is a practicing Glaucoma Specialist for more than 15 years. She has a vast experience in managing complicated glaucoma cases and has special interest in filtering surgeries, tube surgeries and complicated cataract surgeries. Dr. Trina Nasol finished her Glaucoma Fellowship at the esteemed National University Hospital in Singapore under the tutelage of Professor Paul Chew. Dr Ray is a Senior Consultant & Deputy Head in Ophthalmology at National University Hospital. He is an Associate Professor and Director of Education in Dept of Ophthalmology at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. After completing his undergraduate education at the University of Calcutta, India, he underwent basic and advanced surgical training in Ophthalmology at Prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, the premier medical institute in India. Dr. Levin is Distinguished James McGill Professor and former Chair of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at McGill University. He received his AB, AM, PhD, and MD degrees from Harvard, with an ophthalmology residency and neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is an elected member of the American Ophthalmology Society and the Glaucoma Research Society. He edited five textbooks, including Neuro-Ophthalmology: The Practical Guide, Ocular Disease: Mechanisms and Management, and the 11th and 12th editions of Adler’s Physiology of the Eye. Dr. Parul Ichhpujani is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, specializing in glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology. She trained in glaucoma at the Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh, and completed a Clinical Research Fellowship at Wills Eye Institute, Philadelphia. Rahat Husain is a senior consultant ophthalmologist based at Singapore National Eye Centre, specialising in glaucoma and cataract care. He has a strong interest in service innovation, particularly the development of virtual clinics and new models of care to improve efficiency and patient access. Dr. Ruben Hemelings is a researcher specializing in artificial intelligence and ophthalmic imaging. With a PhD from KU Leuven that won the 2022 McKinsey & Company Scientific Award, his research focuses on developing deep learning models to detect and predict glaucoma (progression) from retinal photographs. He is the first author of multiple works, including G-RISK, an AI tool that quantifies structural glaucoma damage from fundus photos. Jonathan Crowston is an ophthalmologist and clinician–scientist specialising in glaucoma and optic nerve biology. He is Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Sydney and a glaucoma specialist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. His research focuses on mechanisms of optic nerve degeneration and resilience in glaucoma, particularly how ageing, metabolism, and mitochondrial function influence retinal ganglion cell vulnerability. He leads translational research programs investigating neuroprotection and metabolic therapies, including the role of nicotinamide in glaucoma. Jonathan leads the Optic Nerve Research Program at the University of Sydney and directs the Snow Vision Accelerator, a research program focused on discovery and translation of neuroprotective therapies for optic neuropathies.
Asst. Prof. Kossama Chukmol is a leading Cambodian ophthalmologist and academic, currently serving as Deputy Director of Preah Ang Duong Hospital, the country’s principal national center for eye care. She also heads the hospital’s ophthalmology department and plays a key role in advancing clinical services and specialist training. She is actively involved in regional and international eye health initiatives. In addition, she contributes to medical education as a lecturer at the University of Health Sciences in Cambodia, where she trains future ophthalmologists. Prof. Ching Yu Cheng is the Assistant Dean (Research), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Director of the Centre for Innovation & Precision Eye Health at NUS. He concurrently heads the Data Science Unit and Ocular Epidemiology Research Group at Singapore Eye Research Institute. His research covers epidemiological, clinical, and genetic studies of age-related ocular diseases. As Director of the Singapore Epidemiology of Eye Diseases (SEED) program, his team has built one of the world’s largest ocular diseases databases. He has published >600 papers in leading journals.
Dr. Dilruwani Aryasingha (MBBS,MD,FRCS) is a consultant ophthalmologist at Golden Key Eye Hospital, Colombo and the immediate past Chairperson of Glaucoma Interest Group of the College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka. She was the President of the College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka in 2019. She is a Graduate of APAO Leadership Development Program in 2016. Prof. Emeritus Makoto Aihara was immediate past Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Tokyo. Outside of ophthalmology, he has majored in neuroscience and molecular biology. Dr Xiaofei Wang is currently a Professor at Beihang University, Beijing, China and Principal Investigator at Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Biomedical Engineering where he heads the Ophthalmic Engineering and Visual Science lab. He obtained his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of New South Wales and finished his postdoc training in National University of Singapore and Singapore Eye Research Institute. Dr. Damrong Wiwatwongwana is the Academic Chair of the Thai Glaucoma Society and a faculty member in the Department of Ophthalmology. Joseph Anthony Tumbocon is the Glaucoma Section Head and Assistant Head for Undergraduate Education at St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) Quezon City, Philippines; Professor of Ophthalmology at SLMC College of Medicine; Trustee of the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology; and Secretary General of the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society. Dr. Tumbocon obtained his medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines and completed his ophthalmology residency training in the same institution. He underwent further training as a clinical fellow in glaucoma at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, USA from 2000 to 2001; and completed another year of clinical fellowship in cornea & external disease at the University of Toronto, Canada in 2002.
Dr. Sushma Tejwani is the Medical Superintendent and head of Glaucoma Services at a Narayana Nethralaya-2, Bangalore. She did her fellowship at LVPEI, Hyderabad, India, observership at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA, and PhD at VIT University, India. She has 26 years of experience in clinical training of residents and fellows. Dr. Saito is an assistant professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Tokyo. Miss Alessandra Martins is a consultant ophthalmologist with expertise in the diagnosis and management of both complex adult and paediatric glaucoma. She is based at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre. She is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney and she her previous research is in the early detection of glaucoma using innovative topographic electrodiagnosticperimetry. She has a special interest in the surgical management of complex secondary adult and paediatric glaucomas.She is currently co-secretary for the UK Paediatric Glaucoma Society.
Adjunct A/Prof Loon is the Head of Ophthalmology at Alexandra Hospital and a Senior Consultant in National University Hospital. He is also the cluster glaucoma subspecialty head. He specialises in performing laser and surgery for glaucoma, as well as complex cataract surgery. He also specialises in the epidemiology of eye diseases, using the research of eye disease in applying the latest technologies whilst ensuring safety and efficacy in treatment. He received his basic training in Singapore, with specialist degrees conferred from the National University of Singapore and Edinburgh. He underwent further fellowship and training in Sydney University, where he obtained a second Masters of Medicine (Merit) in Clinical Epidemiology. He is also keen in medical outreach, and has done medical mission work in Bangladesh, China, Indonesia and Nepal with like-minded friends and colleagues. In 2011, he was conferred the Humanity Award by President Nathan for his work in medical mission work, which he has been doing for more than 18 years. He is Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and Consultant at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Dr Yaxing Wang, MD, PhD, is an ophthalmologist and clinician-scientist, currently serving as a glaucoma consultant, Tenure Associate Professor at Tsinghua University, and Vice Director of the Beijing Visual Science and Translational Eye Research Institute (BERI). Her research focuses on glaucoma and myopia, with particular interests in ocular micromorphology, biomechanics, epidemiology, and public health. Dr Rohit Verma is a Professor of Psychiatry at AIIMS, New Delhi, India with an experience of more than 20 years. With a broad background in clinical psychiatry, he works specifically towards digital and biological aspect of psychiatry conducting research and training in the field. Dr. Swarup Swaminathan is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Swaminathan also serves as Bascom Palmer’s clinical director for informatics. Ki Ho Park is a professor of ophthalmology at Seoul National University and the President of the Glaucoma Research Society (GRS), President of AACGC, Vice-President of Asia Pacific Ocular Innovation Society (APOIS) and Board Member of ICO. He was the previous president of APGS, Korean Ophthalmological Society (KOS), and Korean Glaucoma Society (KGS), Korean Myopia Society (KMS), and the previous Board of Governor of WGA. His research interest is focused in glaucoma imaging and AI, early diagnosis and management of normal-tension glaucoma, and prevention of blindness from myopic glaucoma. He has published more than 400 papers in SCI journals, 14 book chapters, and more than 200 international lectures.
Professor Masaru Inatani is the chairman at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medical Science, University of Fukui, Japan; a director of the Japan Glaucoma Society, a director of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society. After Graduating from Kyoto University and completing residency in Kyoto University Hospital, he was awarded a PhD from Kyoto University Graduate School. After the lecturer at Kumamoto University, he has been the chairman at University of Fukui since 2011. His research interests are glaucoma surgery and molecular mechanism for glaucoma optic neuropathy.
Dr. Rainier Covar earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and completed his Ophthalmology residency at UP–Philippine General Hospital. Prof Carol Cheung is a Professor at Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her main research interests are ocular imaging and oculomics. Dr. Noel Chan graduated from the medical school of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) with first class honors and Kan Tong Po Gold Medal for Medical Studies in 2006. Chelvin Sng is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore and the Medical Director of her clinical practice at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. She graduated from the University of Cambridge, UK, with triple first class honours and distinctions. Chelvin is the co-inventor of the Paul Glaucoma Implant, which is in clinical use in Europe, United Kingdom, Asia and and Australia. She is the earliest surgeon in Asia to implant several novel MIGS devices, including the XEN Gel Implant and the iStent Inject. She has also published the earliest data on the iStent and the XEN Gel Implant in angle closure eyes. As the Convenor of the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society (APGS) MIGS Interest Group, Chelvin has organized MIGS wetlabs and training courses for surgeons in the Asia-Pacific region. She is the co-editor of an open-access book on Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery, which has more than 80,000 downloads worldwide.

In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, traveling, trying new restaurants, and most of all – spending time with family and friends.
Dr Saurabh Verma is an Retina Specialist currently serving as a Assistant professor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Dr Vanita Pathak-Ray is a UK-trained ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist (at the University of Toronto, under Dr Ike Ahmed) and admitted as a fellow in glaucoma surgery by the International Society of Glaucoma Surgery. She currentlyserves as Director and Senior Consultant in Glaucoma at the Centre for Sight, Hyderabad, India. Her interests include MIGS, innovative surgery in advanced glaucomas, PACG, Plateau Iris Syndrome, Refractory Glaucomas, combined cataract and glaucoma surgery, and tube procedures. She is the first Indian Glaucoma specialist to perform MIGS (iStent, Hydrus, KDB) in open-angle glaucoma, as well asin angle-closure glaucoma. She has delivered several invited lectures and has numerous prize-winning presentations, notably on innovative glaucoma procedures, both at International and National meetings. She has been honoured as an ‘International Hero’ by the AIOS three consecutive times—in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Steven L. Mansberger, M.D., M.P.H. is Chief of Ophthalmology, and Director of Glaucoma Services at Legacy Devers Eye Institute (DEI) in Portland, Oregon, USA. Dr. Mansberger was trained in ophthalmology at University of California, San Diego, and a glaucoma at DEI. He also earned an MPH in Biostatistics/Epidemiology. His research interests include glaucoma functional and structural testing, and general and ocular epidemiology. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has continuously funded his research for 27 years. Associate Professor Manchima Makornwattana, M.D., is a distinguished glaucoma and cataract specialist who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University. She completed her ophthalmology residency and chief residency at Chulalongkorn, followed by glaucoma clinical and research fellowships at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary under Professors Robert Ritch and Jeffrey M. Liebmann. She currently serves as Assistant Rector for Planning at Thammasat University and has held multiple leadership roles in ophthalmology education and training. Dr. Makornwattana is actively involved in international ophthalmic organizations, research, and education, and is a co-founder of AECOM, promoting regional collaboration to improve eye care across Southeast Asia.
Loon Seng Chee is Adjunct A/Prof Loon is the Head of Ophthalmology at Alexandra Hospital and a Senior Consultant in National University Hospital. He is also the cluster glaucoma subspecialty head. He specialises in performing laser and surgery for glaucoma, as well as complex cataract surgery. He also specialises in the epidemiology of eye diseases, using the research of eye disease in applying the latest technologies whilst ensuring safety and efficacy in treatment. He received his basic training in Singapore, with specialist degrees conferred from the National University of Singapore and Edinburgh. He underwent further fellowship and training in Sydney University, where he obtained a second Masters of Medicine (Merit) in Clinical Epidemiology. He is also keen in medical outreach, and has done medical mission work in Bangladesh, China, Indonesia and Nepal with like-minded friends and colleagues. In 2011, he was conferred the Humanity Award by President Nathan for his work in medical mission work, which he has been doing for more than 18 years. He was conferred the inaugeral Master Clinician Award in 2023.
Dr. Lin is Co-Director of Research at the Glaucoma Center of San Francisco. He is former Director of Glaucoma Service and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco.He is author on over 275 publications. His areas of research interest include angle-closure glaucoma, anterior segment imaging, and glaucoma surgeries. He is on editorial boards for American Journal of Ophthalmology and Journal of Glaucoma. He has been funded as PI by the National Institute of Health, including as a PI for the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (OHTS) study. He is past Executive VP for the World Glaucoma Association.

Jin Wook Jeoung is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul, South Korea. Dr Cynthia Yu-Wai is a Group Leader and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and leads the Glaucoma and Therapeutics Lab and the UK Glaucoma BioResource at King’s College London. Her lab is focused on advanced therapeutics, implants and translational research. Dr Yu-Wai-Man has been awarded over £3 million in research funding over the last 5 years. She has received several prestigious awards as PI, namely the Rosetrees Translational Award (2026), MRC Transition Fellowship (2025), Heatley Prize and Medal (2022), MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship (2020), King’s Prize Fellowship (2019), MRC Confidence-in-Concept Grant (2016).

Dr Bryan Ang is Deputy Head of the Glaucoma Service at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute, Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Dr Ang’s clinical and research interest is in Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). He is regularly invited to speak at regional and international meetings, and his surgical techniques in various MIGS have won multiple awards, including 1st and 2nd Prize at the World Glaucoma Congress, and Best Video at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting. To date, Dr Ang has published more than 70 scientific papers and holds multiple competitive grants focusing on glaucoma surgery and diagnostics.
Dr. Jella An is Professor of Ophthalmology and Glaucoma Fellowship Director at the Storm Eye Institute, Medical University of South Carolina, USA. Kin Sheng Lim, MB ChB, MD, FRCOphth, is Professor of Glaucoma Studies at King’s College London and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at St Thomas’ Hospital. He directs the KCL Frost Eye Research Department and Ophthalmology research at St Thomas’ Hospital. His clinical and research work focuses on aqueous humour dynamics and glaucoma treatment, leading one of Europe’s only dedicated human aqueous dynamics laboratories.
Nakazawa Toru Toru Nakazawa received the Ph.D. degree in Ophthalmology in 2002. He spent the following three years at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary as the research fellow under the direction of Prof. Joan W Miller. Dr. Nakazawa has been a Professor and Chairman of Department of Ophthalmology at Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine since 2011. His research interests have been focused on glaucoma, particularly studies related to neuroprotection. He has published more than 493 articles in board reviewed international journals.
Associate Professor Judy Ku is an internationally fellowship-trained Glaucoma and Anterior Segment Surgeon based in Brisbane, and an Honorary Clinical Professor at QUT. She completed glaucoma fellowship training at the Singapore National Eye Centre, followed by Cornea & External Eye Disease fellowship training at the University of Toronto. Her dual expertise enables a comprehensive approach to complex glaucoma and anterior segment disease. Dr Ku serves on advisory boards for MIGS and MIBS development and is actively involved in education. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, contributes as a reviewer, and has received multiple awards, including the ASCRS Best Presenter Award.
Associate Professor Jennifer Fan Gaskin (MBChB, MD, FRANZCO) is a Glaucoma Specialist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, and Principal Investigator of the Ocular Fibrosis Research Unit at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (an institution ranked fourth globally in Ophthalmology Research). Her research focuses on novel treatment strategies for fibrotic eye diseases. Jennifer serves as Secretary of both the Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Society and Australian Vision Research. She was recently elected Co-Chair of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists’ Scientific Programme Committee.
